Law firm Lander & Rogers announced four new senior appointments to its Sydney and Melbourne Insurance Law & Litigation group. The appointments reflect a continuing trend which has seen the firm's insurance practice grow at average rate exceeding 15% for over ten years.

Charles Thornley, formerly of Wotton + Kearney, joins the firm as a partner in its Sydney office. Charles has specialised in insurance law for nearly 20 years and is well known in the Sydney market – particularly in the construction litigation area. His key areas of practice include construction, property/ISR and professional indemnity.

Charles said, "Construction projects are becoming increasingly complex and we have seen an associated increase in the past couple of years in property and construction-related litigation.

Lander & Rogers Insurance Law & Litigation group is well known and well respected both nationally and internationally, and I'm excited by the opportunity to work with Ari Abrahams and the team to continue to grow the property and construction area of Lander & Rogers' insurance practice."

Mark Williams, who leads the firm's Sydney insurance practice, said, "We are delighted to have Charles join our firm. His skills and experience in construction and property/ISR add further depth to our Sydney team and will enhance the service we currently provide to our insurance clients in this area. Charles is a great fit both within our team and with the culture of our firm."

Senior associate, Robert Muir, has joined the firm's Melbourne office. Rob previously acted on behalf of two of Australia's leading private medical defence organisations. He now specialises in matters relating to medical insurance including the defence of litigation against public hospitals and general practitioners.

Sonia Hay joins the firm's Sydney office as a senior associate. Sonia's experience spans all forms of dispute resolution, including informal negotiations, mediation and court litigation. Sonia has advised national insurers, medical defence organisations and private hospitals in relation to claims, including providing technical and strategic advice. She also has experience working on large scale litigation on behalf of insurers and public inquiries.

Stephanie Lecouvey joined the firm's Melbourne office as a senior associate. Stephanie, who joined the firm from TressCox Lawyers, practises in insurance law and litigation with a focus on professional indemnity and general commercial disputes. She acts on behalf of professionals such as accountants, financial advisors, lawyers, real estate agents and directors and officers on instructions from insurers.

Co-head of Lander & Rogers' Insurance Law & Litigation group, Lisa Newcombe, said, "Our practice continues to experience strong demand for our services across all areas of the insurance market, and particularly in professional indemnity, medical indemnity, construction and Property/ISR. Our firm's reputation and the quality of our clients means that we are able to attract lawyers of the highest calibre, such as Charles, Robert, Stephanie and Sonia."
