Personal interests

Michael acts for insurers, underwriters and brokers in all aspects of insurance law and his reputation as a provider of authoritative legal services in this field is well-established throughout Australia and the UK.

Michael has been associated with some of the largest insurance litigation in the country including test cases brought to the High Court to resolve a $300 million dispute for the Insurance Council of Australia.

Michael has acted in most of the major class action litigation in Australia, representing the lead insurers in GIO, Aristocrat, Media World, ION, Timbercorp, Sigma and Storm.  He also currently holds instructions in connection with major claims involving bush fires and class actions against banks and others arising from managed investment schemes.

Michael is recognised in the 2013, 2012, 2011 and 2010 editions of Best Lawyers (Australia) for his expertise in the area of Insurance Law.  He is also recognised in the 2013 edition of Best Lawyers (Australia) for his expertise in Occupational Health & Safety law.

Michael's areas of expertise include:

  • professional indemnity;
  • financial and commercial risks;
  • directors’ and officers’ liability;
  • property covers;
  • public liability;
  • product liability; and
  • risk management.

Michael joined Lander & Rogers in 1981 and was admitted to practice in 1982.
