Creating workplace opportunities for South Sudanese communities
On Thursday we welcomed members of the South Sudanese community, together with business leaders, to talk about Lander & Rogers' South Sudanese Business Response — an initiative aimed at creating workplace opportunities for young South Sudanese people.
Many young people in the South Sudanese community do not see a future where they can realise their potential due to experiencing discrimination and social disengagement, and are unable to find a pathway to employment. Recognising this, Lander & Rogers together with Raw Recruitment have reached out to the South Sudanese community to look at how we can work together to create pathways for young people and build capacity for workplace success.
Lander & Rogers' Pro Bono & Community Support Partner, Joanna Renkin, said, "We believe that we can harness our connections to empower communities experiencing challenges. We are now asking employers to join us in making a commitment by identifying potential long-term or short-term jobs or placements that can be provided to young South Sudanese people".
The event was an opportunity to hear from Raw Recruitment about the programs and employment opportunities available, particularly in the construction and infrastructure space.
Lander & Rogers' Project Officer Nelson Deng, who has played a leading role in the initiative, spoke about his involvement, "Navigating the system is not easy. Connections can make a real difference for young South Sudanese people to secure internships, work experience, or full-time positions. It is crucial to have networking opportunities with business leaders and organisations like Raw Recruitment, such as we did today".
