The festive season is a great time of year to give - not just to our families and friends but also to others in the community.

There are many people living in Australia for whom this season is a stressful, rather than a joyful, time, so community support is an area where our Pro Bono & Community Support practice particularly focuses its efforts at this time of the year.

New Day Box Appeal
We donated shoe boxes filled with skincare products, cosmetics and treats as a message of hope to women experiencing family violence. The boxes were donated to refuges for women who are escaping family violence over the Christmas period.

Brotherhood of St Laurence – Breakfast Club
We donated Lego to our friends at the Brotherhood of St Laurance Breakfast Club. The coordinators at the Connie Benn Centre were thrilled, as it will keep the children busy over the Christmas break and beyond.

Friends of Refugees Christmas Visits
Last weekend, Friends of Refugees spent Saturday and Sunday revisiting 120 asylum seeker and refugee families with Christmas presents, food vouchers and other items. It was lovely to catch up with so many of the friends that we had made over the year and to see how they were managing.

Berry Street Christmas Tree Appeal
We delivered presents to Berry Street for the Berry Christmas Gift Appeal. We also presented the coordinator of the Appeal with more than $1,200, collected by our Pro Bono Fundraisers over the last week. The money will be used to buy gifts for disadvantaged children and young people living in our community.

Christmas Hamper for Josephite Community Aid (JCAid)
We compiled and distributed hampers of gifts and groceries for JCAid, a Sydney-based charity based which provides assistance to newly arrived refugees, people facing poverty, mental disability, disadvantage and other special needs.

Christmas Gift Wrap for Youth off the Streets
A team of Lander & Rogers elves took care of all our Sydney staffs' gift wrapping needs for a gold coin donation. The money raised was donated to Youth off the Streets, a non-denominational community organisation working with young people aged 12-21, who face the challenges of homelessness, drug and alcohol dependency, exclusions from school, neglect and abuse.

Food Christmas Food Drive for OZHARVEST
We donated non-perishable food items to OzHarvest, which is re-distributing them to local charities before Christmas.

Orange Sky Laundry Project
We raised funds for Brisbane's Orange Sky Laundry project, which is Australia’s first mobile laundry service for the homeless.

At Lander & Rogers, we understand the importance of law firms giving back to the community by improving, investing in and contributing to the justice system. Our Pro bono & Community Support practice, which has been in place for over 10 years, is focussed on enabling access to justice and enhancing social inclusion for vulnerable Australians through the strategic delivery of pro bono legal services and community engagement.
