Bulletin - Winter 2015

Workplace Relations & Safety Bulletin - 21 August 2015

Welcome to the Winter 2015 edition of the Bulletin.

The past quarter has been another interesting one for employers, particularly with regard to developments in employment law.

Perhaps the most interesting development was the decision by a Vice President of the Fair Work Commission, who found that dismissing an employee who drank a significant amount of alcohol at a work function and behaved inappropriately towards a number of his colleagues was unfair.

There have been a number of other developments relevant to employers during the quarter, and we look at some of these in more detail in this edition of the Bulletin, including:

  • Managing poor performers – some practical tips
  • Operating an independent agency: employee or contractor?
  • Down, but not out: expired enterprise agreements may still be terminated
  • No beards, no worries: Victorian Supreme Court finds Police grooming policy not discriminatory
  • Unions, enterprise agreements and superannuation
  • WHS laws: Bend and stretch - reach for the jurisdictional limit
  • Carbon opportunities

and more...
