Finalists in Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards 2019

We are delighted to announce that the firm has been recognised as a finalist in three categories in this year’s Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards. In addition, one of our Legal Support Professionals has been recognised for her invaluable contribution to the firm and wider community.

Lander & Rogers is a finalist for:

  • Innovator of the Year
  • Pro Bono Program of the Year
  • Wellness Initiative of the Year

Gemma Berkhout from our Family & Relationship Law team has been named a finalist for Legal Support Professional the Year.

The Innovator of the Year submission was based on the firm's iHub projects, as well as its LawTech Hub — the first lawtech hub of its kind in Australia.

The Pro Bono Program submission focused on JRLink.org — an innovative online platform to provide solicitors with the free training and resources they need to assist asylum seekers with pro bono advice — built by a team of Lander & Rogers lawyers led by Joshua Butler. The submission also discussed our strong pro bono culture, driven by our Pro Bono practice and Jo Renkin as our dedicated partner.

Our Wellness Initiative of the Year submission was based on our employee resilience program. In 2018 we partnered with The Resilience Project to launch a year-long program that would support our people — including inspiring presentations, a bespoke digital series, a new Wellness Portal, access to resilience journals, and regular engaging communications. The Resilience Project founder, Hugh van Cuylenburg, has now presented five sessions with our firm and our wider community, sharing the powerful resilience principles with family, friends, clients, and community partners of Lander & Rogers — we felt that it was important to share the lessons with all those around us as we know that this will have the strongest impact for everyone.

With the assistance of the Law Society of NSW, Gemma Berkhout established a committee and community group for legal support staff, which has provided networking events, educational seminars, and resources to the wider legal support staff community.

The Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards are an opportunity to celebrate the outstanding work taking place across major legal practice areas, brilliance at the bar, legal in-house powerhouses, innovators and various firm-led pro bono programs.

Winners will be announced on 9 August 2019 at an awards ceremony in Sydney.

We'd like to thank everyone involved for their valuable contribution to our firm, our clients, and the wider community.
