Senior Associate

Kate is a Senior Associate in Lander & Rogers' Insurance Law & Litigation team. She enjoys a broad and varied practice working across the financial lines practice group.

Kate has considerable experience in contentious and complex litigation, having regularly acted as defence counsel in matters concerning various professionals including but not limited to insolvency, financial, legal, construction, engineering, and other professionals. She also has experience acting as defence counsel in disciplinary proceedings.

Kate has extensive trial and advocacy experience and is adept at managing high-value and multi-party complex litigation.

Experience

Kate has acted for trustees, liquidators, lawyers, barristers, financial advisors, accountants, property developers and asset managers, engineers (geotechnical, structural and civil), architects, surveyors and other professionals across a myriad of disputes. She is regularly commended for her pragmatic and strategic advice.

While Kate's primary focus is as defence counsel, she also has experience acting as coverage counsel. Kate is often retained to advise on coverage generally, and also to advise on policy interpretation, application of exclusion clauses, compliance with conditions, dual insurance and subrogated recoveries.

Kate's areas of expertise include:

  • commercial litigation and dispute resolution
  • public and product liability, including third-party property damage

  • acting for various accountants in relation to negligence claims, including successful withdrawal or resolution of claims to the Tax Practitioners Board and other professional regulatory bodies
  • acting for and appearing in a matter for a trustee concerning a review and attempt to set aside sequestration orders
  • acting for a liquidator in complex multi-party litigation involving claims for negligence and specific performance related to the sale of high-value assets
  • acting for various lawyers and barristers in relation to disciplinary proceedings
  • acting for and defending a disability support provider in relation to coronial inquest proceedings concerning a death in care
  • acting for an asset manager in defence of a complex misleading or deceptive conduct claim, both at trial and on appeal
  • acting for various project consultants in claims involving combustible cladding
  • acting in respect of claims arising from large infrastructure projects.
