Prior to joining Lander & Rogers, Declan practised in the insurance and disputes team of an international law firm.

- acting as coverage counsel for the property insurers of a renewable energy company following a significant property damage and business interruption loss at one of the largest solar farms in Victoria
- defending a large market of Lloyd's underwriters in respect of a major bank's $250M claim for indemnity commenced in the Federal Court of Australia following its settlement of two consumer credit class actions
- acting for an international mining company and its property insurers in respect of a subrogated recovery against various contractors following a major loss at a large coal mine in Queensland
- acting as coverage and defence counsel for a national construction company and its insurers following a construction JV's $200M claim for damage to public infrastructure in connection with the insured's works
- defending a class action commenced in the Supreme Court of Victoria on behalf of a national not-for-profit organisation arising from legal advice it provided to pro bono clients under the National Redress Scheme
- successfully defending a fire engineer in a complex multi-party proceeding in VCAT involving allegations of professional negligence, resulting in their early dismissal from the proceeding
- successfully settling a large legal costs recovery against an international law firm arising from erroneous legal advice it provided to an insurer client
- acting as coverage and defence counsel for a construction software company and its professional indemnity insurer in respect of preliminary discovery proceedings commenced by a competitor in the Federal Court of Australia.
