Tara Hercok

Senior Associate

Tara is an experienced family lawyer who has practised exclusively in family law since 2013 and has been admitted to practice since 2018. Prior to joining Lander & Rogers in 2026, she was employed at a specialist family law firm in Sydney for 7 years.

Tara focusses on delivering strategic and concise advice tailored to each client’s circumstances. Resolving matters quickly, efficiently, and without needing to proceed to litigation is a focus of Tara's practice. Mediation and other forms of dispute resolution are considered a priority at the outset of Tara's matters, unless the circumstances of the case deem it inappropriate.

However, where Court proceedings are required, Tara regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Divisions 1 and 2), both as a solicitor and whilst instructing Counsel.

Drawing on extensive experience in multifaceted family law disputes, Tara has developed a useful ability to identify when specialist input is required from third-party professionals, including accountants, taxation lawyers, commercial lawyers, financial planners, and other experts, ensuring clients receive comprehensive and practical advice from the outset.

Tara strives to bring an empathetic and approachable manner to her practice, and aims to provide clients with clear, concise, and pragmatic guidance during what she recognises can be highly challenging and emotional circumstances.

Experience

Tara's areas of expertise include:

  • property settlements involving high net worth property matters, including those with portfolios comprising multiple trusts, corporate entities, and private investments
  • all types of parenting cases, including those involving allegations of risk arising from drug and/ or alcohol abuse, mental health concerns, and family violence
  • child support matters, on both an interim and final basis
  • spousal maintenance applications, on both an interim and final basis
  • acting in matters involving forum disputes
  • divorce applications.

Career highlights

Tara’s career highlights include:

  • successfully having interim Orders made for a 15-year-old to live with her client and spend supervised time with the other party, despite the 15-year-old expressing strong wishes to remain living with the other party and there being allegations of risk on both sides.
  • attaining a division of 65% in her client’s favour in a high-net worth property case, after a marriage of 35 years.
  • successfully having final Orders made to declare a s90C Financial Agreement binding, and to enforce the terms of the Financial Agreement, where both applications were opposed by the other party.
  • instructing Counsel and Senior Counsel during a 14-day trial of an ultra-high net worth financial matter, which ultimately settled on favourable terms for her client.
