Rachel Patterson

Rachel has a broad background in litigation. She specialises in defending construction and financial lines professionals against allegations of negligence.

Experience

Rachel has worked across several jurisdictions in Australia. She specialises in defence of matters in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal, the County Court of Victoria and the Supreme Court.

She has experience acting on behalf of builders, engineers and architects in her construction practice, and real estate agents, brokers and directors, and officers in her financial lines practice.

Rachel prides herself on finding resolutions to disputes with clients and in providing practical advice. Rachel has also worked in a commercial practice, and is committed to understanding the environment in which clients operate, in order to provide them with tailored advice.

Career highlights

Rachel's career highlights include:

  • representing a major building company and its lead insurer on a pavement dispute worth in excess of $25m
  • representing the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority in VCAT litigation relating to domestic building insurance, including in relation to the build of multi-unit complexes
  • representing and advising the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) in its formative stages in relation to access and entitlement in regards to the National Disability Insurance Scheme. This included a seven-month secondment within the NDIA litigation team
  • acting for construction professionals in complex, multi-party disputes
  • advising clients on coverage issues in relation to disputes arising from large building projects
